with Grant Wood's classic painting American Gothic,
which depicts a spinster and her stern, pitchfork-wielding
father. But did you know that Wood's "farmer" was
really his dentist? (The daughter was Wood's sister,
Nan.) We wonder if the picture would be famous if he'd
